The Wall Of Protection

What a blessed position we are in…to have a God who is always working to preserve us and do us good.

Romans 8:28 says “We know God works all things out for the good of those who love him, and have been called according to his purpose.”

This week’s parsha is filled with just that.

From preserving the dignity of female prisoners of war, to the preservation of a mother bird sitting on her nest of eggs, we read line after line of righteous rulings meant to preserve life and bring us good.

One particular ruling spoke volumes to me.

Deuteronomy 22:8 “When you build a new house, make a low wall around your roof to prevent someone from falling from the roof, thus leaving you guilty of bloodshed.”

Within this very practical, very physical rule of preservation, there is a weighty spiritual commission for all God’s people.

Because just as GOD is always working to preserve us and bring us good,

So WE must actively work to preserve others and bring them good.

The new house mentioned in Deuteronomy 22:8 is a spiritual allegory for “our new lives in Messiah”. Yeshua used a similar allegory in Matthew 7:24 when he said “Everyone who hears my words and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on bedrock.”

And if the new house represents the new life we’re building in Messiah, what could the roof represent, but the heights the Lord brings us to in relationship with him?

The glory, the revelation, the intimacy… The heights.

The roof is the place where we receive from the Lord.

And the roof is the place we long for others to get to.

But here’s where the weighty spiritual commission comes in.

We are instructed to build a low wall around our roof to prevent others from falling off. Others we know may not have as good of a footing as we do.

Others may not even know the way up yet.

What do I mean?

What I mean to say is, don’t cause your brother to stumble by trying to bring him into a revelation it took the Lord years to build up within you. You may have divine knowledge in some aspect of faith, while your brother, for his part, might still be at the bottom level of their “house” laying a foundation of having newly accepted Messiah.

Romans 15:1-2 says “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.”

The foundational things of Faith and consistency in discipleship are what constitute the wall of protection around your roof. The steps leading up to the roof are the gradual degrees of revelation and glory that the Lord walks each of us up as we grow in knowledge of him.

And what a high privilege we have… to operate in the very image of our God and actively work, not only to spread the truth of him to others, but to do so in a way that protects and preserves their faith… step by step at their pace.

Let us, as the people of God, be intentional in this respect.

Let us work to bring many into the knowledge of Messiah.

And let us do so in a way that that will preserve them and bring life to them.

Build that wall for protection.

B’shem Yeshua❤️
