JESUS OUR JUBILEE

Jubilee… what is it and what does it mean for us as believers in Messiah?

If I were to generally define jubilee, it would look a little like this:

JUBILEE

joo͞′bə-lē″, joo͞″bə-lē′

noun

  1. The fiftieth year that’s consecrated after settling in the land.

  2. The year freedom is proclaimed to all.

  3. The year people are returned to their families.

  4. The year sowing and harvesting is forbidden but the land produces enough food for all.

  5. The year land is returned to its original owner.

The jubilee is an actual physical observance created and commanded by Adonai himself (Leviticus 25:8-13). But, like all of Adonai’s appointed times, beneath the physical observance is a rich and meaningful revelation that can be found in Messiah Yeshua, the Word made flesh. In fact, when Yeshua began his ministry in 28 A.D., a jubilee year, he stood in the synagogue and read this verse from the prophet Isaiah proclaiming the parallel spiritual jubilee to all who had ears to hear:

Luke 4:16-21 Now he went to Natzeret, where he had been brought up, and on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual. He stood up to read, and was given the scroll of the prophet Yesha‘yahu. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of Adonai is upon me; therefore he has anointed me to announce Good News to the poor; he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the imprisoned and renewed sight for the blind, to release those who have been crushed, to proclaim a year of the favor of Adonai.” After closing the scroll and returning it to the shammash, he sat down; and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. He said to them: “Today, as you heard it read, this passage of the Tanakh was fulfilled!”

The spiritual counterpart to the physical jubilee commenced when Yeshua’s began his ministry.

FREEDOM WAS PROCLAIMED TO ALL.

In Messiah we are free from slavery to sin, free from the law of sin and death, and free from

fear of death itself (Rom 8:1-2, Rom 6:18, Heb 2:14-15).

PEOPLE WERE RETURNED TO THEIR FAMILY.

When Messiah announced the spiritual jubilee, the way was opened for us to return to the household and family of Adonai, as it says in John 1:12

“But to as many as did receive him, to those who put their trust in his person and power, he gave the right to become children of God.”.

SOWING AND HARVESTING CEASED YET THERE WAS ABUNDANCE FOR ALL.

Just as the sowing and harvesting of the land ceased yet it yielded a supernatural abundance of food for all, so too when we enter the jubilee of Messiah, we cease from our own works yet eat of the supernatural abundance of grace and salvation from the hand of God.

And lastly…

THE LAND IS RETURNED TO ITS ORIGINAL OWNER.

Just as Yeshua’s first coming brought depth to all the other aspects of the jubilee, his second coming will complete the final command of returning the land to it’s original owner. Now, the world is in the hands of the Adversary… but soon and very soon we will hear the angels sounding the call from Revelation 11:15 The seventh angel sounded his shofar; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying,

“The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and his Messiah, and he will rule forever and ever!”

Amen, and we cry from the depths of our hearts-

BO YESHUA ADON, BO!

Come Lord Jesus, come!
